Last month we exhibited at the National Homebuilding & Renovating Show in Birmingham. During those four very busy days, we spoke to hundreds of self-builders who were interested in building their future energy efficient homes with Structural Insulated Panels.
We answered thousands of questions related specifically to SIPS system. We also provided general advice on how to build a sustainable, low energy and comfortable house that will suit the needs of self-builders’ and will be finished within the budget that was set before construction.
Many of our stand’s visitors decided to develop their Self Build knowledge further and booked places on our Self Build seminars. As a result of this, both of the seminars in Birmingham last week were almost fully booked.
Then, a mortgage and insurance expert from Buildstore Ltd, Tom McSherry explained the financial side of Self Building and shared his recommendations regarding financing a SIPS Self Build project.
Next Allan Corfield (Allan Corfield Architects) presented guide of tips and tricks on how to make sure your project’s programme is well thought out and how to ensure that the whole process is managed effectively and completed without costly mistakes.
Following lunch break, Pat Hynds and Darryl Bailie from Future Space explained the costs of a typical Self Build project and how design influences it.
After this, Allan Corfield presented a guide on how to build a low energy home in the most cost effective way – using the fabric first approach. Then Brian Singleton (ADM Systems) explained the role of Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery in a low energy home.
In the final talk of the day, Allan Corfield, Pat Hynds and Mark Johnston described the typical development of a Self Build project with SIPS Industries and provided advice on how to choose contractors for your project.
Below are comments from Mark Johnston, our Drawing Office Manager, who was very pleased with the outcome of the seminars:
“I am really happy with the increasing amount of self-builders in the UK. Many of the people who attended the seminars had very interesting and ambitious projects which only proves that people are not afraid of Self Building. Our guests were very proactive and were asking a lot of questions.
Their passion was noticeable and their energy carried us through the two days. I am sure that all of the participants will build their dream homes and we hope that our seminars will contribute to their success.”
Following the seminar, some of the attendees chose to proceed with their projects and build their future home using SIPS. They are visiting our factory in the following weeks to see our product and see first hand the manufacturing process of panels.
